Maiklum sa Tubig is the malevolent god of salt waters. Ancient Visayans consider him a demon rather than a god. His name can be translated as "Being of/in water" ""Creature of water" "Creature in the water"
Maiklum sa Tubig is the embodiment of what is evil and scary in the sea and water such us unpredictability. Ancient Visayans believed he devours the souls of those drowned in sea, others believed he is the reasons why men drown at sea.
He like so many other gods desired the moons to be his consorts and lover but he was defeated by the death god Dapa or Sidapa who summoned all the souls trapped in sea to aid him.
Since he could not get the moons he turned his attention to another, the goddess Alunsina.
He wooed the goddess but was rejected, in his anger he plotted with his brothers to drown Alunsina
and her mortal lover Datu Paubari, but their plans were spoiled by Alunsina's sister.
