Sidapa

Sidapa is the  Bicolano and Visayan god of death and keeper of peace
and the patron god of mount Madjaas and known for taking the young boy Bulan as his consort

He who battled other creatures and gods to claim the boy he loves
the fierce warrior but the stately lover. the god of Mt Madjaas

Sidapa and Bulan

"Long ago the god of death resided alone on top his mountain under his tall tree (mt.madjaas of Panay Island) from his domain he saw the seven moons dancing. He admired the moons for their beauty and not to long he fell in love with them. 

He realized that the other gods where also infatuated with the moons; he battled Malandok (god of war and plunder) Maiklum sa tubig (god of sea and waters) he battled and defeated the two gods. He outsmarted the goddess Luyong Baybay (goddess of tides) who was singing to the moons. Sidapa used his powers to strike fear and command others to do his bidding: asked the birds and mermaids to sing his endearments for the moons,

He ordered the flowers to bloom and make sweet perfumes that would reach the heavens,

and lastly he asked the fireflies to light the way so the moons could find their way to him.

One of the moons came down (the ancient Visayan  had to celebrate the full moon because they believed that a moon god or goddess has descended) it was the boy Bulan; young,short, lithe and comely he was contrasting death who was tall, muscular and scary. Sidapa showered the boy moon with gifts and songs. One night Bakunawa (giant dragon-serpent; the guardian of Sulad/land of the dead) who was also captivated by the beauty of the moons rose from the sea to swallow the moons, Sidapa saw this and quickly flew to the cosmos to snatch the boy Bulan before Bakunawa could devour him.

Sidapa saved Bulan from Bakunawa and it is said that they live together as lovers on top of Mt.  Madjaas to this day."

Agud lamang nga haylohon Si Bulan nga maambung.

Bulan nga ginahandum Ang naghulid sa Kadulum: 

Tuyongtuyong kang Madyaas Sa andang gugma naghulas.

Bisan sin-o w'ra napunggi, Nagminyo darwa ka laki.

Bakunawa nga pangahas  Nagtuyo nga magtampalas 

Sa bata nga kahagugma Kang mal-am nga si Sidapa, 

Kag sa tuman nga kaugut,Ang anang sungay nagbagrut,

Si Bakunawa ginbuno, Langit nagdulum kang dugo.

Kag tubtub sa katubtuban Si Sidapa kag Bulan
