Paiburong was a god worshiped in ancient Visayas. Unlike other gods he was of ancestral rather than divine. Paiburong was once a mortal man who was skilled in sailing, fighting and tactical warfare. He was the "punong hangaway" or head warrior of  a colony of "lupong" or tattooed warriors. he was called Byuong Paiburong  he was the sovereign of irong-irong (pre-colonial iloilo) A mortal Datu who offended the great man-eating beasts Makabagting and Amburukay. He defeated them ascending into godlike status. He was said to be so strong and muscular that his strength and manly appeal was often compared to the great crocodiles. He was so great in combat that the land celebrated him and the god of war and plunder Macaduk ascended him and made him a god.

The statue which depicts Datu Paiburong as the Iloilo Dinagyang Warrior conceptualized and designed by local artist Boy Maculino. It stands 15 feet from its base and will be made from cement with a bronze finishing.
Buyong Paiburong and Burigadang Pada Sinaklang Bulawan

the goddess of greed was riding a boat with her dwarves crossing a river and when they encountered Buyong Paiburong and his men, They battled and to their surprise their skills in combat are equal.
They gained each others respect and decided to be brother and sister by "sandugo" blood compact . Diwata Burigadang Pada Sinaklang Bulawan gave the mighty Paiburong a golden bell as a sign of their brother sisterly love and respect.
