Sidapa and the first rooster
the legend of the rooster

Sidapa god of death

Sidapa is the god of death but he dislikes war (particularly the god of war Maladuk.)
Tribal leaders, chieftains and sovereign princes and  come to him for advice on either how to win or evade war.
He stays up late every night to see the moons (his young lover Bulan) so he has difficulties waking up.
He anointed a soldier to be his herald, to wake him up when ever there are leaders and people who need advice on war.
He showered the herald with good fortune and with lots of gold.
The herald did his duty well, until one day he got drunk. He got so drunk that night that he revealed to his drinking buddies the secrets of war the following day he forgot to wake the god of death.
The god of death awoke the next night only to find out that wars at sea had been waged. that war and plunder prevailed as he slept.
Sidapa got mad, he called for his herald
but the herald had already fled.
but no one can escape death Sidapa found the herald and would have put him to death, but he pleaded for his life. The god of death was kind and understanding . he did not take the life of the herald, instead he cursed him thus making him the first rooster. as atonement for his past transgression the herald continued to do his job every morning as the rooster waking "tiktilaok!"
